Did you know our educational rock pool visits also offer a fantastic sensory experience?
We have worked with many special schools over the last few years, adapting our experience for children with complex needs. Most recently, we visited Green Fold Special School and we tailored the experience to suit children of mixed ability and with physical and visual impairments. Following this experience, our Marine Ranger Dave received the following feedback:
‘This was an amazing sensory experience for our children, lots of hands on. Perfect.
Thank you to Dave for a fantastic ‘hands on experience’ for the children (+ staff). There were some amazing responses from the children + all were engaged + interested. Dave is very knowledgeable + knew how to interact with all the children to provide a memorable experience.’

Whether we are working with a mainstream or special school, we always listen closely to your specific requirements to ensure you get the experience you are looking for.
Generally with special schools, the experience isn’t so much about the educational talk and more about touching and feeling the creatures. We include different types of starfish, crabs, mussels and mermaid purses for the children to hold, meaning there is a good variety of textures and shapes to engage them.
Our Marine Rangers are very good at including children of all ages and abilities, and we have handheld pods to put the creatures in and bring them down to the children’s level or lap.
Green Fold Special School booked another session within days of their first, and another special school – Rowan Tree Primary – has booked us to visit each half term next year!
Our rock pool has proven more popular than ever and offers a safe and reliable school trip alternative in the current times.
Our aquariums are also very effective in SEN schools and sensory or nurture rooms! Our rental service from £1.30 per day includes everything from the aquarium and fish to food, decor and monthly clean!
